USJECTs; Interviews with Car E SKIT: h Stovens, United Air Lines pilots, Ceptein E. J. SMITH was interviewed at 1500, 9 July 1947, concern the "flying disks", and stated substantially as follows: "Te left Boise, Idah t ). if tendar approxim 2015, the co-pilot ph STEVENS y ion } rst ot seen. We were then in the vicinity of i Id altitude was anp- roximately 6500, and we were ol f 8000 from thers to Ponadleton, was 300 degrees Magnetic North, and i ely 290 cees, cr ton derrees he left of the main, irs These £ jects appeared ly smeller than the f Lje ‘ ited, but all of the ob the la Ia altitude of the objects to 0 ere ia our sight for epproximately two minutes, after the first group disappeared, probably one cr two winutes cond group eppeared about 310 degrees, or to the right of the altitude was the s-m> as tho rst groupe T jects eppeared to on the same plane, and one object appeared sl her and to the right of the others. cond group steved hin our sight twelve to fifteen minutes, then disap; We Lad levelled off by the time the second group disa: "The objects were flet on the bese, the top slizhtly rough in contour. The dimensions appeared the same as a DC-3 approximately five miles from use In coher words, it could have been ninety miles away if it would be possible for an object as large sc that would have to be to be flying, but since we didi't lmow what we were looking at or how lergs it was, we de- cided that if it were the size of a'DC-3 wing span (90 feet), it was about five miles distent. Actually, we have no idea just how large it was since we could rot determine its distance from us. When we first sighted the objects, we decided they were sither going away from us or coming towards us. After a short while, however, we knew they couldn't be coming towards 4s, bocause we never approached them. I don't believe they could have beea going a great rate of speed and still stayed in sight for as long as they did. I would judge they might have beon travelling about 300 miles per hour, "iy personal opinions regarding the objects are - that their speed varied, was not constent. Whe first sighted, they were going slow and stayed within sight for quite some time. However, when we lost sight of them, they seemed to disappear practically immedietoly. I think they either put on ea tremendous burst of speed and disappeared from sight, or else they dissipated. Also, it appeared that only one object, the large one, was controlled, and it in turn controlled the other objects, and I think they were ground controlled.
