The house was designed by the architectural Antechamber. 3: Living Room. 4: Bedrooms. 5: Kitchen and dining room. 7: Pantry and storeroom. 8: Veranda. has been restored. A motion picture theater seating 250 has been built. The village library functions again; it con- tains 5,000 volumes, A book shop has been opened in the center of the vil- lage. A 500-watt radio relay station has been set up. About 2,000 homes of the villagers are lighted by electricity and have radios. Each of the six collec- tive farms in the community has its own club. The local Soviet, with the partici- pation of the population, has accom- plished much in improving the com- munity: an actesian well has been sunk, water mains have been laid, and almost two miles of streets paved. The collec- tive farmers enjoy the benefits of social- ist culture; their living conditions are gradually approaching city standards, The postwar period of development in the collective farms is noted for its organization and the constant advance of efficiency in building. State agencies guiding construction in the countryside, regional boards, and district departments —~ which have on their staff engineers, architects, and technicians — with the help of collective farm building bri- gades, have set up powerful facilities for the production of building materi- als. More than 20,000 brigades totaling 100,000 to 150,000 persons worked on the restoration of houses and public buildings of collective farms which suf- fered from the Nazi occupation, The collective farms have set up their own facilities for the production of building materials. For example, last year collective farm kilns in Krasnodar Territory produced more than 26,000,- 000 bricks, and 12,500,000 bricks were OCTOBER 13, 1950 (Dimensions are in centimeters.) contributed by collective farms in Voro- nezh Region. All collective farms in Pavlovo District, Voronezh Region, pro- duce their own local building materials. An extensive chain of educational es- tablishments to train personnel for rural construction has been organized in tegions of the Russian Federation. It includes eight technical schools, 40 one- year schools, and 50 three-month courses for training heads of building brigades, with a total enrollment of more than 6,000. Rural outfitted construction trusts BUILDING A CATTLE BARN. A brigade on the Pobeda with modern equipment have been set up in a number of regions for building houses of culture, hospitals, post offices, schools, and motion picture theaters. Planning bureaus and state institutes for planning the development of rural com. munities are functioning in a number of republics and regions.
