Redding Special Task Force Burenu of Folice Services 175 Decatur Street, Southsest Atlanta, Georgia 30303 Dear Chief Redding: Reference {s made to your letter of February 27, 1981, and the draft proposed agreement pertaining to the Atisnta Task Porce on Missing and Murdered Children enelosed therevith, Please be advised that I have reviewed the draft pro- posal and fully agree with your position that all icocal law énforcement agencies pool their resources and ccusclidate alk invastigqation pertuining to the missing and mercered chiliren fages under the directicn of the Atlanta Task Forca. This would ef course include not only the investigation of the cases then- selves, bet auch related matters as crime scens investiqations, nedia relations, and the procetzing of physical evidence. However, because the Federal Bureau of Investication {PBI} encounters ne jurisdictional barriers and because of inherent ccerationsl differences in both investigation and administration, it is not fessibla for tha PBI to become @ member of the Task Force. We will, of courses, continte to work closely with the Task Fores and fully share all information of mutuz} interest. Cur ability to inveatigate thin matter on a nationwide basis augments and strengthens your investigation. Further, our laboratory and technical facilities will remsin at your disposal.
