OFFICE OF THE LEGAL ATTACHE THE AMERICAN EMBASSY MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY August 8, 1944 Rez_ Bas URUGUAY ADMINISTRATIVE Dear Sirs By letter from Bueno; res to this Office dated June 7, 194, it was ‘ learned that Dr. Jose te, Chief of the Basque Intelligence Service in Buenos Aires, was planning ‘a trip to Montevideo and Santiago in the near future, The Buenos Aires Office informed this Office by cable dated July eX 1944, that de Lasarte was proceeding to Montevideo within the next few days.’ On July 12, 1944, Sr. de Lasarte was interviewed by the writer. He ad- vised that his Organization had in the past been in close collaboration with the Office of the Military Attache in Montevideo and that he was desirous of es- tablishing contact with the Office of the Legal attache with a view toward de— veloping close working relations in the future. Sr. de Lasarte advised that — for the present it was desirable that contact be maintained with the Military Attache but that he was hopeful that al could be worked out he bg en his Organization and this Office.
