In connection with this trip, LEAN2ZA wed on August 1, 1979 by Special Agent (SA) nd 67% ROGER J. FONTANELLA, Staff Investigator, Unite ates Department of Justice, in the presence of Departmental Attorney, JOEL L. LISKER. At the time of this interview, LEANZA voluntarily furnished the following information: He came to the United States in 1950, becoming a citizen on February 5, 1953. He spent 27 months in Tripoli in 1937 while a member of the Italian army. LEANZA stated that in 1977, he went to Catania, Sicily to see his nephew, ROSARIO POLIZI, who had tecently built a high rise apartment building in Tripoli, and was also in the road construction business. The purpose of the visit was,to obtain his pension benefits based-on his’ 14 years of Italian Government service. While visiting. . his nephew there, he met MICHELE PAPA, a Sicilian from Catania who had gone to school with him when they were children in Sicily. During this meeting, PAPA asked LEANZA if he would like to make a lot of money and LEANZA told him he would. PAPA then asked LEANZA if he could arrange to bring BILLY CARTER to Libya. LEANZA asked PAPA why he wanted BILLY CARTER and PAPA told him "that is not your business." According to LEANZA, he told PAPA that BILLY CARTER was not the President of the United States, that he was only @ private citizen, and not a very Smart one at that. LEANZA stated that during his 1977 visit to Italy, he noticed that everybody was talking about making “Libyan” money. After leaving Italy, LEANZA stated that he received numerous telephone calls from PAPA requesting that he arrange for BILLY CARTER to visit Libya.
