Dahlia Shyer Skips Date, Note Expresses Feat, ‘LOS ANGELES, Jan. i (UP). ‘Three hours after the deadline for the surtghfler of the killer of| Short, the “Black joliGE™ received a new note which said the murderer had changed his mind about giving himself up. A.previous communication had, said the slayer of the 22-year-old beauty would give himself up at "10 am. today. The hour came and went without anything hap- pening. New Note Sent Early this afternoon Capt. Jack ‘Donahue of police homicide bu- reau received a note. It was ad- dressed to him and said: “T have changed my mind about surrendering. I’m afraid I won't} get a fair deal.” The note was composed of le| ters and words cut from news papers, as were several previot Messages apparently from _ thi killer. It came in a typewritten f, envelope. ‘The envelope and. note were turned over.to the police crime Taboratory for study. ‘The new’ note arrived shortly after. the police had publicly pledged themselves to be fair“to| the-slayer if‘he gave himself up.
