RE: BLACK PANTHER PARTY (BPP) - RAIDS
Charlotte, North
Carolina, Police Department, intelligence Unit, advised his
reason for participating in the raid on the Panther
Headquarters at 316 South Turner Street was due to the fact
the Charlotte Police Department had a Conspiracy to Commit
Armed Robbery Warrant outstanding for JEROME CLIFTON JOHNSON
at the time the raid was conducted on May 27, 1969.
It is noted that on June 6, 1969, in the United
States District Court for the Western District of North
Carolina, Charlotte, North Caroiina, a civii suit was filed.
Plaintiffs were as follows:
BEN CH\VIS and wife JACQUELINE CHAVIS,
JAMES COVINGTON, JR., THOMAS COLEMAN,
VERONICA HAGENS, MRS. MENTZIE JOHNSON,
CORDELL KENNEDY, MARY SMITH, ART
LYNCH, JR., CORNELIUS WASHINGTON,
and
RUGH G. CASEY, JR., next friend of TONY ALFORD,
ANGEIA COLEMAN, JOHNNY LEE DOUGLAS, G. BENJAMIN
HAIRSTON, MICHAEL LANEY, RUDOLPH NASH, and
TALVIN JOHNSON
Defendants were as follows:
