described himself as Defense Captain of the NCCF, political arm
ef the BPP and his comments derided a Winston-Salem, North Carolina,
reliceman, “Pig MATTHEWS", stating that he is crazy and wants to
kill hima “nigger.”
BARTZE VERNARD SPEASE, introduced as Licutenant of
Fducation, stated that the BPP has stopped more oppression than
any organization; however, 28 panthers have been killed in stopping
this oppression, SPEASE was also critical of drugs in the
cemmunity due to the fact that a "junkie" would sell them out.
LARRY LITTLE in his speech called for mobilization of
iorees as that is the only thing understood by the power structure
in Winston-Salem, Nurth Carolina, He considered the Government
capitalist and did not meet the needs of the people, He stated
the BPP would deal with anybody that stands in the way of their
piograms. He stated "we're for their emancipation and we understand
that no one 1s going to he free until we destroy this imperialist
monster right here, the United States Government." (Referring to
cuancipation of blacks and poor oppressed people.) He called for
tne building of a black liberatroa army to take what was theirs,
H stated "there is an organized attempt that is coming down from
J. EDGAR HOOVER. Head of the fascist bastards Incorporated,and
RICHARD NIXON, the Head of the American people. the Chief Spokesman
of the American people, There is an attempt to try to liquidate
the BPP," LITTLE called for the takeover of the black community.
ROBERT T. GREER ended the meeting with a speech calling
fur the people to get a gun and be ready to defend themselves and
also called for the people of the community to unit with the
BrP,

WILLIAM RICE and LARRY LITTLE appeared at Winston-Salem State
University (a predominantly Negro school) where they spoke and
hod a question and answer period. It was apparent from the questions
and lack of cnthusiasm that the group was not well received and
ene student commented that he felt the panthers were uncouth and
g'upid and many of the questions by the students concerned the
leck of education, administrative ability and goals of the BPP
group. The talks by RICE and LITTLE were primarily derogatory
toward the establishment and ran down the college and instructors
for their lack of black identity and biack involvement.
