A conference was then had with Park Findley, Chief, lowa Bureau of Investigation, who believed a posse should immediately be formed to search along the Des Moines River Bottoms, which is covered on either side by a heavy growth of timber. There are numerous unused ahacks and cabins along the river which would make ideml hiding places. Clyde then ordered the three farmers to help his pertner over the fence with the girl, which they did. The farmers were cautioned not to get the girl on the ground as she had been shot in the leg and in the stomach, Clyde then made Valley Fellers back his car out of the garage and help place the girl in the back of the car. Clyde did the driving, and whi the rest were getting the girl in the car, he rested his head on the steering wheel. The Fellers farm sets back ebout three-quarters of ea mile from the road, and the trio went out the lane and turned north. Keeping to the country roads the fleeing subjects worked their way eastward, and are deli to have crossed the Des Moines river on the Madrid bridge, which is located , a ~|
