Dear Director Kelly: w a | As you may know the Attorney General of Alabama and & the Police Department of the City of Birmingham, Alabama 2 \ have reopened the investigation into the 1963 bombing of 5] = a or the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. We have been jointly working on the investigation for approximately six months. In the course of the investigation we have received some information from the FBI Office in Birmingham--primarily 302 form reports of interviews with suspects and other Ku Klux Klan members in the Birmingham area at the time. C e a We are now at a point in the investigation where we would like to interview a number of the FBI agents who worked on the case in 1963 and '64.in Birmingham. I have enclose ist-of the names of these agents. sy ’ We feel that it is necessary for our investigators to talk to these agents to develop background information on the, case which is not included in the reports that are contained in the case file.
