Thank you for the generous remarks expressed .
in your letter which I received on April 15th.
There was no FBI report made public concerning
the Birmingham church bombings because information in our
files must be maintained as confidential pursuant to regulations
of the Department of Justice.
With regard to the article to which you referred,
there is no truth to the allegations insofar as references to the
FBI are concerned. This matter was handled entirely by the
Meridian, Mississippi, Police Department.

bombings. The story which he makes reference to in his h
incoming was based on a series of articles authored by Jack Nelson of
the Los Angeles Times News Service which appeared locally in the
“Washington Post.'"' Address per last outgoing. The above response was ©
coordinated with the Civil Rights Section of the General Investigative
Division.
