This is the case involving the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist
Church, Birmingham, Alabama, on 9/15/63. Four young Negro girls were
killed, 16 other persons were injured, and damage to the church amounted to
approximately $30, 000. A full investigation was instituted immediately;
however, our investigation was prejudiced when the Alabama Highway Patrol
prematurely arrested the principal suspects. We are still conducting vigorous
investigation to develop admissible evidence which would warrant Federal °
prosecution,
