This is the case in which four young Negro girls were killed in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on 9/15/63. 2° At the request of SAC Roy Moore, . who was in the Birmingham area on a testimony c ment, to the Laboratory on the evening of 9/18/63, various items of evidence collected during the crime scene search of the instant bombing. The items of evidence consist of (1) pieces of heavy gauge wire from the wire screen covering over the windows in the ladies lounge (2) pieces of window frame from windows in the ladies lounge (3) fragments of drapery material from drapes covering the windows in the ladies lounge (4) fragment of metal frame from screens covering windows in ladies lounge (5) scrapings from window sill of windows in ladies lounge 1(6) piece of red plastic insulated wire found on floor exorg debris [in ladies lounge (7) piece of red plastic insulated wire taken from {a bell signal system used in the church. A The Laboratory was requested to examine items one tnrougy/// five for possible explosive residues and to examine the wire in it i six to identify its type and compare it with the known piece of wire used in the church, item seven. The Laboratory initiated examination procedures immediately upon receipt of the evidence.
