SECRET On January 22, 2002, Thabet met with C1. Thabet spoke frankly regarding his personal opinion of hijackers Al-Mihdhar and Al-Hazmi. Thabet told that referenced hijackers were "more than heroes" and "they (the hijackers) had reached such a high level of spirituality that they were calm even knowing they were about to die." .Thabet knew the hijackers Nawaf Al-Hazmi and Khalid Al- Mihdhar. Thabet went on to say that he knew Omar Bakarbashat and ba others detained as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11,27? 2001, had asked permission from Muslim religious leaders to commit suicide.
