On the afternoon of the Wth instant, agent Fay of the New York office called by telephone to advise that Mr. Charles Irrgang, who has financed agents DiLlillo and Pelmera in the Juice Grape business, had advised that he had received word from Bubject Manny-Schraiberg and two others who had made certain inducements looking towards a partnership hed—-edriesd that they were informed that government agents had entered into the grape business; that they were not in any way fearful of the consequences; and Mr. Irrgang stated that hewaild not finance another car for these Agents; that he would not testify to the facts which he has already disclosed to our Agents; that he would no longer cooperate with the Government, and that he was through. Agent Fay stated that Mr. Irrgang made these statements in no belligerent attitude whatever, bit in an attitude olearly indicating, in fact supported by the statement that he was fearful for his life and would under no circumstances have anything more to do with this investi- gation. In view of this information, I promptly communicated with Mr. Oseas, in Mr,O'Brian's Division, and it was agreed that agents Palmera and Dilillo would be promptly released from this work in Chieago, end that further investigation would necessarily be suspended until the full facts with regard to the Irrgang statement were received, Agent Fay stated he would place a report in the mails on the night of thse 30th instant.
