All of these enclosures were delivered 4 jpecial Agent W. G, Banis of this office today by Mr. R. fickem, Executive Editor,fReal Detective Stories, S2nd Floor’, 444 Medison Avenue, New York €ity. These papers were obtained after Mr. Mickem had telephoned to the New York office advising that the manuscript and papers had been left at his office and that after he had studied them he was of the opinion thet some of the papers were official re- cords of the United States Penitentiary, for which reason he telephoned the New York office. When interviewed Mr. Mickam stated confidentially hat the enclosures had been left with him recently by a Mr. Fe ‘ - frarrete, 523 N. Fulton Street, Baltimore, Maryland, who had called . to sell the manuscript. Since the papera were left with him Mr. Mickam stated that Mr. Barrett personally had not called back at his office but that he had telephoned to him on several occasions, using the long distance telephone, which fact Mr. Mickam had de- tected by hearing the operator request the party calling to place the necessary coins in the toll box and that on these occasions Mickam had informed Barrett that he had not as yet had an oppor- tunity to read the manuscript because OED ite length.
