Dear Sir: With further reference to my letters to you dated Jamary 26 ami 27, 1932, concerning the case entitled DAVID T.OMONEYPENNY, SUPEXINTE DENT; Gzorse S1BS I, ASSISTAN SUPEHINTHE DEVT,SCOOK COUNTY JAIL, CONTEPT OF COURT, while in the Federal Building today I talked with Mr. Clawson, Assistant United stu1ies attorney, and later to Mr. Laubenheiner, the United States Marshal. Mr. Clawson informed me thet the United States Marshal had not written a letter to the Attorney General requesting authority to employ additional Deputy Mershals as was indicsted in my letter of January 26. The matter appears to be in the same status as it was on Jamary 26, inssmch as no definite action has been taken, : Shortly after the conference mentioned on January 26, I received two telephone calls from Mr. Moneypenny, wherein he stated that he had no definite developments to report, but that he had been very quietly investigating the matter at the County Jail. In his last conversation with me, he stated that he amd the Sheriff had spent a ereat deal of time conferring as to possible means of clearing up the situation, mt that no solution head been found. Mr. Moneypenny takes every opportunity to inform me of his sincere efforts to circumvent any action by which Al Scapone might continue the supervision of his # -calli a business interests in Chicago. I have no information to the ~ effect that he is insincere, and in fact, in view of the situetion at the Cook County Jail, the manner in which it is built, etc., I an not certain that he has the means at hand with which to correct the situation. av pee ewe w Wot?
