a aa Federal Aureau of Investigation Pave e With respect to MacLean's breakdown in Cairo, Egypt, it has been reported that from about January, 1950, until Man, IfacLean with a journalist, Ifa, 1950, the two men broke into the apartment of two American cirls in Cairo and this resulted in MacLean heing recalled to London, In London he was under the care a@ woman psychiatrist of man origin, : ae Guy Francis de Moncy Burgess was born April 16, 1911, in England, le attended Canhridge University, reportedly being a@ Communist rhile there, From 1934 to 19385 he lectured in history at Trinity College, Cambridge, England. From 1935 to 1962 he was with the British Broadcasting Company engaged in anti-Vazt propaganda work, Fron 1939 to 1941 he was employed hy the British Intelligence organization, MMM Fron 1941 to 1244 he was again with the British Broadcasting Company. From 1944 to 1946 he had a temporary appointment in the News Depart ent of the Foreign Office in London and was thereafter enploved in the private office af the Minister of State, Hector MacNeil, until 1948. He then worked from 1948 to 1950 in the Far Eastern Depertnent of the Foreign Office, and in August, 1950, was transferred to the British Embassy in Washington, D. C. in the Far Eastern Affairs Depa-tment, lie left the United States on transfer back to England on jay 1, 1951. After his return he was called hefore a board and i .forned that all chances for further promotion in the British Foreign Service were over. Burgess claimed diplomatic innunity for himself and the driver, reportedly even going so far as to threaten the arresting officer in the event the case was prosecuted.
