Top A. -Bomb P Donald MacLean, the missing British diplomat, was a member fof the committee that controlled the wartime exchange between this country and its partners in the development of ‘the atomic bomb, a State Department spokesman said yesterday. MacLean and Guy Burgess, a fellow: British Foreign Office member, mysteriously disap- peared from London May 25. They since have been the object of a broad international man- hunt, accompanied by sugges- tions both may have slipped be- hind the Iron Curtain with vital secrets. ~ |i The State Department official here would confirm only that MacLean was a member of the ' combined policy committee that dealt with top-level international relations on the A-bomb project. ;.
