Courlérs are bringing coples of their statements by
plane net only’ to London but to the Intelligence
Departments of the other Western Powers.
Revealed already are the detalls of
Communist subversive activity in the West since 1945,
when Igor Gouzenko, Russian cypher clerk in Oltewa,
exposed the spy rings in Canada,
The leak of Communist spy activities has become
a waterfall—so that all branches of the Intelligence
Services of NATO are now fully occupied checking
facts, identifying agents, and tracing payments to
“fifth colummist” co-operators.
And this work will go om for months—while the |
Communist spy organisation will plainly have to be
overhauled.
MOSCOW REGRGANISES
Old agents will no longer carry trust; and. if still
free, they will have tobe recalled. AM their contacts
wi be ucrter observation, And fresh agents will find
the going tough. .
Already, yesterday came news of developments in
Moscow, where Prime Minister Malenkoy has
reorganised his Government.
And the most notable change Is the setting up of
a State Security Committee, independent of Serget
Krugiov, the Minister of the Interior who succeeded
Beria, the shot “traitor.”
To the head of this new committee goes General
Ivan Seroy, until now deputy te Kruglov. He becomes
the supreme boss of Russia's espionage, counter-
espionage, and sabotage activities.
And Serov, 48-year-old ladies’ man and Tavourite
of Stalin, with a long record of undercover arrests in
Russia, will have the task of reor ganising his foreign
services—in the light of Petrov’s revelations.
It is not yet known how much of Petrov’s disclosures
ul be made public. Some will certainly be al: before

.Maclean is alive--{1) An emissary placed £1,000 in a
