GETAWAY SHIP
DID I SEE THE THIRD MAN:

Man — the
British official in
Washington who tipped off
Maclean and Burgess that
they were tnder suspiclon—
may have been in the ship
with them when they fled.
One of the 200 passengers in
the steamer Falaise crossing that
night of May 25, 1951, from
Southampton to St. Malo was

At St. Malo, said Mr. Lyons;
“came the incident which made
me temember all this.
“We arrived ut about 9.30 in
the morning and it was simply
bucketing with rain All the
passengers thought it Was out
of the question to go ashore —
except Maciean and Burgess
and the other man.
“Just as son as the gangway
was placed they went ashore,
getting soaked. “Then I noticed
an odd thing.
“There was only one taxl—a |
very nice, new, black Job which
drove up, eitcled about,
waited aft of the siiprinstead
of on the rank opposite the
e three men got into she
taxi and off it shot
That was the Jast_ that was
seen of Maclean and Burgess.
And The Third Man? Sole
people think they saw him in
the'ship back to Southampton
that night,
