This inyestigation resulted in the identification ef Batl Julius Klaus Fuchs, German-born naturalized British subject who was an atomiea scientist. He had been in the United States from 1943 te 1946 working with a British scientific team assigned to the Manhattan Project. Fuchs was arrested by the British fs England in February, 1950, and he admitted furnishing atonis information to the Soviets. He was convicted of violation of the Official Secrets Act and sentenced to fourtees yours. @ Kim Philby, of course, was avare of this entire investigation and since Fuchs was succeasfully convicted, tt is sot felt that Philby’s knowledge of this investigatios bas had any adverse effect en Bureau Operations at any tine y ©
