Company, 115 Broadway, advised SA on July 13,
1951 that his company is the largest seller of British sterling
notes in the United States. He said, however, that they do
not keep a record of the serial numbers of any notes sold,
whether to an individual or ea banking firm. He advised that
the largest denomination allowed to be sold was a five-pound
note. ARMM pointed out that he could safely say that
no other company in the United States would make a record of, )
serial numbers of such small notes. . . ’ @
With regard to the American Express Company checks
purchased by BURGESS, it was determined through
, of known reliability, that all thirty of these
checks were cashed in the United States prior to the departure
of BURGESS, except for one check which was cashed on board the:
QUEEN MARY. ‘his informant advised thet the majority of these
checks were cashed in Charleston, South Carolina, Washington,
D.C., and one in Baltimore, Maryland. ¢
