Vladimir Petrov stated in an article in the "United States News and World Report” issue of September 23, 1955, that he learned through his colleague, one Kislytsin, Second Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Australia that Burgess and Maclean were long-term agents who had each been independently recruited to work for the Soviet intelligence during their student days at Cambridge University.
