Dalton stated that he had Ney been contacted concerning any protection which the FBI had arranged ~ 7 for Cardinal Spellaan. Dalton stated that there appeared to be an underetanding that we would be furnishing guards for the Cardinal. wren : I advised SAC Dalton that no such arrangerent had been nade and the Bureau could not assign A ents to such duty. JI further told him that, of course, tf the Cardinal requested asstat — ‘ance which we could render ta the form of services, that there would be no objection to affording hin such asatetances however, we would not eesign any guards. SAC Dalton stated that he was sure the Cardinal knew nothing about such arrangements and unless advised to the contrary, he would not eonstder furnishing any Special Agents for guard duty.
