SCOUTING MOULDS BOYS

services rendered by the CYO staff, every phase of activity hes been
extended to 257 parish units. tt has been @ desire of CYO to make aveil-
able @ four-fold program that would supply leisure time activities in a
constructive way.
ATHLETICS
Since 1946, when 5.122 boys and girls made up our basketball leagues,
this pecticuler sport has attracted greater numbers each year. The 1947-48
season supplied activity for 7,18! participants, and in 1948-49, we find
that 7,700 CYO-ers on 608 teams comprise the largest organized basketball
league in the country.
Baseball diamonds in Steten Island, in Manhattan, and the Bronx, and in
the Westchester and Upstate areas, provided @ proving ground for 212
teams and 4,100 players.
Our older groups have evidenced 2 tremendous interest in bowling and
$,060 participated in Westchester, Staten Island, and the Bronx, for a most
successful season.
Devotees of the cinder paths were attracted to the number of approxi-
mately 4,000 in a series of five major meets during 1947-48.
Golf tournaments were arranged in Steten Island and Westchester and
the winner of the Junior Steten island tournament represented this organi-
zation in the Annual National Caddies Tournament at Ohio State University
tampus, Columbus, Ohio.
Association Football and Roller Hockey proved to be of great interes!
to the hundreds of city boys who competed in these leagues.
Swimming meets efforded an excellent indoor activity for meny youngsters
in all areas.
