2 3 4 S 5 6 ? 7 In the Jamuary 1948 issue of the "Bulletin of the Atomic Seientists" on page 1 appeared an article entitled L “A Flea for International Understanding” by Albert Hinstejn. This article was a reprinting of Finstein's remarks addressed to the members of the Foreign !ress Association to the United Nations on November 11, 1947, in accepting the Asscctation's award as chairman of the Emergency Committee of Atomic Scientists. The award was given "in recogniticn of his valient effort to make the world's nations understand the need of ovtlavine atomic energy as a means of war, and of developing it as an instrument of peace." According to the review of this article submitted along with the Bulletin, Finstein made the following statements: "(1) Man's problem, the atomic bomb, is man-made. (2) Intelligent, objective and humane thinkine is even persecuted as unpatrictic. "13) Feople of sound judgment and sense of justice in opposite camps could work out a solution, tut there is a forced sennration of such people in both samrs. "(4) There is little chance for agreement where contact ts limited to official nerotiation. "¢5) Setentists consider it their task to work for understanding and ultimate agreement."
