The article further stated that EINSTEIN was uneble to attend
this meeting due to 411 health and hence addressed the gathering ty tele-
phone. He catled upon the American Jews to give fullest aid to the
Soviet Union in order to repay the "debt we must be conscious of every hour
of our life if we want to retain our self respect". According to the
article EINSTEIN complimented scientific, industrial and technical
achievements of the USSR and atated that the American press had mis-leed
the people on the achievements of the Russien people and their Government.
The tempo of Russian development in the last twenty-five years has been
so tremendous that it has scarcely a paraliel in hietory.
According to the article EINSTEIN further remarked thet 1t
was only the Soviet Union wWilch helpedSTALIN; offered assistance to the
Czechpslovakians; did not sell arms to the Germans and Japanese end

foreign politice",
He further stated that he knew that the Soviet Union was the
‘only country in which equelity of the nationalities was not an empty
phrase but a stenderd fellowed in actuel life.

to help in rebuilding some sections in the Soviet Union which were
liberated by the Red Army and had e substantial Jewish population,
According to the informant this memorandum had been signed
in the name of the Jewish Council for Russian Wer Pelief by Professor
EINSTFIN, Honorible Chairman, and other officials of this orranization.
The Teily Vorker dated 2/28/44 contained an article which
stated in part that seventeen hundred delepates crowded Manhattan Center’
Grand Bellroom on the previous Sunday to watch the 1944 campaign of the
