columnist Drew Pearson was at Alcatraz Isiand from 8:35 a.m.
to 10:00 a.m. on 6-15-62. He was permitted to view the main
cell block and walk through the dining room. He viewed a cell
block which 1s no longer used because of its deterioration and
he was very interested in this cell block. He asked many
questions about the history of Alcatraz. The prison officials
gained the impression that Pearson was not interested in the
escaped inmates or the investigation to locate them. He appeared
interested in the operation of the penitentiary and indicated
that it sbould be maintained in better condition. It appears
that Pearsan. will do one or more articles on Alcatraz Penitentiary.
