ESCAPED FEDERAL PRISONER; CONSPIRACY Synopsis: At 7:15 a.m., 6/12/62, FRANK LEE MORRIS, JOHN WILLIAM ANGLIN, and CLARENCE ANGLIN, all inmates of the United States Penitentiary, Alcatraz Island, California, discovered missing from their cells by officers of the Penitentiary, and dummy faces were found in their beds. Escaped by digging holes through back walls in ventilator areas of their cells; climbing plumbing pipes in utility corridor behind cells and then broke through bars and ventilator lid onto roof. Climbed down from roof on the large pipe at rear of cell house, over the fence, b S. and to the northeast shore of dsland. A similar hole in Yi as well as a dummy face. '3¢ Pm. on 6/11/62, supposedly to return hole, and not seen since. Later that night e hole in his cell, proceeded to the roof, and d they had gone. He returned to his cell and to bed. Escapees had taken a six foot by fourteen foot raft made from - rubberized raincoats and three yoke life preservers similarly made. These articles had been made and stored on top of third cell tier under cell house roof, and Escapees worked on _ oe, same in evenings after breaking out of cell. tates - yo they planned to escape to Angel Island in San isco Bay and then to the mainland, ‘They would commit burglary to obtain guns and clothing; then steal a car and leave area.
