wo : a 7 . 1 - § . i - Alcatraz Escape June 13, 1962 = electrical cording which had been laying oa the floor of the‘cor- ridor and I had noticed upon leaving my cell that it had disappeared. This cording was to be used in lowering our material down from the roof of the cell house and possibly in assisting in lowering one of us down. : u I ‘eserve ea jacket and pants and sta; qd throu, 2 ° O-remove my clothing before I could get through the hole in the roor. When I got on the roof I put my clothing on again and went to the edge of the roof near the cage where the large black pipe leads > to the ground. We had contemplated going down this pipe to the : ground, looked around and could not see them and figured it was too Fate for me to go. Also they had taken the raft which was to be our means of escape. “The last I saw Morris was at 9737 P. M. on June Llth, 7962 and it is’ my belief that they would have been able to leave the Islani by 10:30 P. M. that night or possibly no later than 11:00 P. M. that evening. a We had talked about 2 to Angel Island. It was helieved aad talked about going to @1 Isiand, that there would be less chance of detection if we proceeded in that direction. Upon getting to the mainland we had decided that we would commit a burglary so we could obtain guns and clothes, ‘ and then_sté ° fas our this area as We Could, although we had no plan _ a5 to wheres ws would Ron Just the four of us were involve nm this escape. To assist in this effort, I had made a periscope out of paper and mirrors which we could stick out of the hole on the roof to see if there were any guards in that area prior to leaving the hole. I had given this periscope to Morris fo# one of the Anglins and it was stored next to the roof. The only peseibie weapons which they would have would possibly be a kitchen knife or some similar type objects which they might have sharpened. ‘ When we were working attempting to get out of our cells we would work from between about oi80 FM. and 9:80. M. in the evening. When Morris or the Zlins were working up near.the roof they would generally do such work between 6:45 P. M. and 9:00 P, M. at night. Ge: lly, Morris, was with one of the Anglins when they went to the r as I didn't desire that the two Anglins go there together as I didn't trust them. £ we were suéfessful in escaping,. Morris and I had planned t ooner or Tater we would go in one . direction and let the Anglin brot o in another. low 2 TRE 2:20 that this is‘all of the information he had to tur-O/& nish Concerning this matter. He said that he - not beljeve in yd signed statements and would not furnish one. advised that the other three individuals,,as far as he knew, ha e same type of clothing to take, namely, his reguiar denim garb and a pea jacket. He said he knew of no other clothing which would protect them from: the cold water and he had none. . 440
