supject, —ALCOS
You were advised in my memorandum of Jun ry 62,
that the San Francisco Office had submitted a sample of materia :
removed from holes located by prison officials in the cell of : a
an Alcatraz inmate; also, known samples
of paint and cement paint were submitted for comparison purposes,
The examination of the material from the hole
discloses it to be essentially a neat (no sand) Portland cement
with traces of mortar and paint particles, The cement has been
in contact with moisture but is not believed to have been made
into a slurry. The length of time the material was in use could
not be determined. The material from the hole is different from
the white cement paint submitted,
Further examinations of the cement and paint are being
made and you will be kept advised of any pertinent developments.
These results are being furnished the San Francisco
Office by teletype today.
