The ruling laid down by the Judge is the rule that an object is not legally obscene if the person importing it had a genuine scientific purpose. The article also indicated that the Solicitor General said the Government would not appeal from this ruling and, in effect, is tantamount to breadening of the Government 's original conception of ebscenity which had net considered the status and purposes ef recipients of pornography. et One The case before Judge Palmieri involved aduittedly pornographic books, pictures, and other objects imported from China by the above institute and held in New York by the U. 8. Customs.
