Jones _ May 10, 1948 RE: BOOK REVIEW Kinsey and hts assoctates describe thetr report ~ as "an attempt to accumulate an objectively determined body of fact about sex which strictly avoids soctal or moral interpretations of the fact.” - Within ten weeks after the publicatton of Kinsey's - report, his name was a byword in the American household. A Gallup poll reflected that within two months after publi- cation one out of every five Americans had either heard of the book or read tt. That in itself is a phenomenon tn book publishing circles. - - This book is the first of a series planned. The complete set ts as follows: ‘ 1. Sexual Behavior tn the Human Male 2. Sexual Behavior tn the Human Female 3. Sezual Factors in Marital Adjustment 4. Legal Aspects of Ser Behavior 5. The Heterosezual-Homosexual Balance 6, Sezual Adjustments in Instituttonal Populations 7 Prostitution 8. Sex Education . 9. Other Spectal Problens Kinsey states that from the dawn of human history, men have left a record of their sexual activities through drawings, books and other methods and yet, scientists have avoided tnvestigations of human sezuality. He includes a bibltography of over 500 books on the subject to prove that human sexuality ts one of the most poorly explored fields tn biology, psychology or soctologye _— Typtcol of the data contained in this book ts the followings . . “ A number of persons interviewed turned in sexual calendars and diartes showing thetr day-to-day activities over some period of times The calendars cover pertods which range from stz months to thirty-five years; and they clearly indtcate the monthly periodicity of sexual responsiveness in the female, and the lack of any such pertodicity tn the male. Kinsey urges all persons who have kept day by dey calendars showing the frequenctes and the sources of their sezrual outlet, to place the accumulated data at Ais disposal for further studye . :
