-23- We believe the Service Committee should confine its activities to Chr service, both at home and abroad, That is what made the Committee a power- fully constructive force for unifying Friends throughout our country, Present policies are dividing us. Let us concentrate on proclaiming the Gospel of Chirst and carrying on Christian charity in His name. Political matters should be leit in the Lerids of individual Friends and for such action as they may take i their Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly meetings. ERSONNEL Du ing the past 20 years, the tendency to employ more and more non-Fricnes in Service Committee work has been rapidly growing. Some of the signexs of this document have heard an officer of the Service Committee defend socialism in public debate. Cthers have heard an officer of the Service Committee ceclare in public that we would never have peace until capitalism was abolished. Some of us have seen maladjusted persons appointed to responsible positions in forcign © service and have witnessed moral breakdown of the most objectionable kind by administrators of Service Committee work. Ina large organization, lapses of this kind are, of course, inevitable but it points to the importance of more care in the selection of personnel. Many of us think it would be better to do less work and to employ Friends to do it rather than to enlarge activities to the point of mocking propex care and supervision almost impossible, The large preponderanc o nds coming to the Service Committce from non-Quaker sources is probably the reason for the enlargement of activities and for the employment of so many - * non-Friends,
