The "Guide te Subversive Orgerizations and Publications", revised ané published as of Decexber 1, 1961, by the Comittee on Un-Anerican Activi- ties, U. S. House of Representatives, documents the Emergency Civil Liberties Comittee as follows: . "To cet the cases of Commnist lawbreakers, fronts have been devise? making special appeals in behalf of civil liberties and reaching out far beyond the corfines of the Communist Party itself. Among these crganiza- tions are the * ® # Emergency Civil Liberties Committee. When the Communist Farty itself is under fire, these fronts offer a bulwark of protection." (Internal Security Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Handbook for Americans, S. Doc. 117, April 23, 1956, p. 91) A source advised December 21, 1957 and Jamary 6, 1958 that LEONARD BOUDIN, constitutional lawyer and legal counsel for Emergency Civil Liberties Comittee, made a speech December 20, 1957, accepting the Philadelphia Associates 4S A group to work with the national organization. -This occurred at a Bill of Rights Day celebration sponsored by the Philadelphia Associates, Emergency Civil Liberties Committee, at the Adelphia Hotel, Philadelphia. & second source advised on May 23, 1962 that the Philadelphia Associates have not been active in the past two years, have no current active mexbership and do not maintain a headquarters in Philadelphia.
