On March 30, 1967, despite warnings by
the U. S.,Government, the fifty foot ketch
Phoenix Sailed into the war ravaged port
of Haiphong, Democratic Republic of Viet-
Nam, She carried ten thousand dollars worth
of medical supplies consigned to the Red
Cross Society to be used for relief of civil—
ian casualties resulting from the United
States bombing. This act of mercy, spon—
sored by A Quaker Action Group of Philo—
dolphia, caught the world’s imagination.
