being picked up in 1950. He stated that their files
reflected information only concerning the arrest of
GALANTE near Binghampton, New Yo ch et

It has.previously been reported that Detective
Captain CHRIS GLEITSMANNof the West New York New Jersey
Police Department had been involved in the attempted
bribery of the New York State Police on behalf of the
subject regarding his arrest for speeding in 1956.
The "Newark Evening News" of December 16,
1953, date line Trenton, New Jersey, reflects that
Superior Court is reserving a decision on the
Srate allegation that Judge PAUL H. DUFFY impeded the
case against West New York, New Jersey Detective
Cuj;tain CHRIS GLEITSMANN. Deputy Attorney General
CN:RLES S, JOELSON claimed DUFFY stripped the key
fp of the state's case in ruling that GLEITSMANN
snculd be tried on the charge that he used a police
telephone and car for private purposes.

DUFFY dismissed a second charge that
GLEITSMANN used the car and phone to bribe a New York
State Policeman "to free Brooklyn underworld figure
CARMINE GALENTE from a. jail term."
JOELSON stated the state “wants to assume the
burden of proving that GLEITSMANN went to New York
to offer a 'fix. That is misconduct, not this dust
in the air about the use of a a telephone and car,"
