It was prepared by a "working party" composed of both scholars in criminal j tice, and persons who have been on the receiving end of the system. The preface state "The question of crime, justice, and punishment has become a major public issue once a The working party concludes that reformist prescriptions for improving the system of c minal justice are bankrupt and that the system is a major failure. The seminar is to examine with the three working party members listed as consultants, the findings and r -mmendations of the book. We shall focus on the policy implications for the legislativ and executive branches. Your response to the book's “Epilogue: Action” will be espect waluable. ABOUT THE CONSULTANTS: G. Richard Bacon has worked for two state penitentiaries and 6 social work in the Philadelphia prisons. He is a member of th Governor' 8 Justice” Coumission. Baward C.
