Noubergor, Humphrey, Cruening, Byrd and Randolph, in the 86th Congress, lst Sossion,
introduced Serete Resolution 150 on July 24, 19 Although no action was taken on
the resolution, it at least gives on indication of the aren which Congress is ine
terestcd in studying. Tho bill called for the establishnent of a Select Committce
en the Eoonomio Impact of National Defense. This spocial group would investigats,
toking into accomt the fact that an internatianal disarmament agreoment would in
vole readjustments in our nation's defenso policies, the extent to which defcise
prosurencnt currently affects the economy and the steps that might bo talen to
minimize the impact of dofense contract cutbacks on the economy. Said Sonator Bert
in introducivg the resolution: "Wo should be busy developing e blueprint which rill
dramatize the ability of our econeny to make the transition from a $40 billion do-
fomse expenditure to en expenditure substantially less. We must convince the mos
