This draft is to be used in connection with Congressional inquiries to the Department and is to be furnished to the Public Information Office of the Department of Justice. The draft was reviewed by the General Investigative Division. It is noted that on page 1 the draft stated, "To date, we have initiated more than a dozen investigations." In this connection, we have mora than two dozen investigations going on at the present time; however, not all of these were initiated by the Department of Justice, “ On page 2, lines 8, 9, and 10 read, "The Bureau has also agreed that, where appropriate, Special Agents who speak Spanish will be used in such investigations." It is to be noted that we already have two Soanish-speaking Agents assisting in these investigations and the General Investigative Division has recommended that two more be sent to assist. oy THAT. It was suggested that lines 8, 9, and 10 be revised to read, “The Bureau, where apsropriate, is utilizing Special Agents who speak Spanish in such investigations," These suggested changes were discussed with Assistant Attorney General Stanley Potiinger of the Civil Rights Division. He agreed to adopt the language suggested for lines 8, 9, and 10 on page 2 and also indicated he would revise page 1 to relate that more than two dozen investigations nave been initiated without differentiating as to who initiated them. .
