Cn Friday, July 25, 1975, | went with approximately 14 other supporters of the United Farm Yorkers (farmiorkers, organizers, and legal personnel) ard monders of the press to melon fields in Pecos County for the purpose of persuading farmworkers to join a strike for better working conditions and collective bergzining agrcenents, te turned off Highway 1776 onto a fairly wide, ravel topped dirt road about 7 a.m. we proceeded down the road about a mile, stopsed, and for about three or four minutes half of the group stood on the sice of the road and tried to persuade several truckloads of farm worker Jeavirg for the fields not to go to work. 3. ie proceeded down ihe road again for about half a mile and stopped where the sone workers were gettting off the trucks and beginning to pick malos. 4. 1 did not see a single sign anywhere on this dirt road indicat ing that it was privete property or that we were trespassing. | assumed it was a pudl> n osc for that very reason; and because the road appeared to be well maintal ned and well travelled. 5. Our cars vere parked off the road on the strip of land approximately eight feet wide between the road and the irrigation canal that bordered the relon fields, We stood on that same strip of land with our United Farm vorker flags and talked to the farm workers starting to work in the fields. Ne were there about three or four minutes. 6. 1 was standing at the far right ond of the group, | heard cars drive up and sone kind of comoetion. |! looked to my left and saw two cars drive up at high epoed and stop near ue. 1 also noticed other cars criving up « 2 efi of our group, but I'm not sure how many. | sav at least five eoputics thore over the course of the noxt few minutes, 7. t saw one doputy crab the blue knapsack belonging to a moubor of tho rose. | heard Jim Douglas, an attorney, and a doputy arguing avout whoihur were trespassing or not, 1 then heard Jim Douylas say “allright.
