Vice President of the United States of America
Washington, D. c. U.S.A.
Dear Sir: Ce aw uae se
In a recent issue of the New York ‘Jerald Tribune r notice ‘thet your a
attention has been dravm to the apparent abuse br certain congressmen of
their "frankén:" privileces, and in that connection I think the following
statement may be of interest.
tio or three months ago I received a franked ervelope bearin; the
none cf Ja.es C. Oliver, Conyressnan, enclosinz; long reprints of the
testixony of Charles A. Lindbergh before a Cornittee of the U. 8. |
I had never heard of Mr. Oliver and was at a loss to know how he happened:
to have my name and address. I noticed that the post mark was. New York”
“mot Wasidn ston and thet the address was by “sticker” such as is used by
publications to which one subscribes. My name and address were correct
but the exairy date did not seen to correspond mith any publication to
which I subscribe regularly, After looking over my checks in payment of
me subrcriptions I found that this sticker was normally attached tocopies
of the "Connentator", wien Lowell Thomas was editor of this magazine
I was a subscriber, but when it was taken over by Scribner and I: found that |
it was pro-tiazi, I told then to discontinue sending copies'to’im. SIt “2!
would appear, therefore, that these franked envelopes were turned’ over’
unaddressed to the “Commentator” and that they used the mailing list of
their subscribers to spread the doctrines of Lindberyh and his kind.
I have been tcl) that when the "Commentator" changed hands, ‘Lindbergh
was the prime mover and that it was understood thut the paper would be a
mecium for airing his views and those other ant Americans whose superior
wisdon and Imowled,c make about 90% of their fellow countrymen ignoramuses,
ascording to then.
Being vritish, I do not love Lindber h and threw the reprints of his
testinony in the waste barket. I have marked thic letter “confidential”
as I do not wich to have my name mentioned but the subject matter is at your
dirposal. I may say that I an Auditor ef an /ncrican Company here.
