In accordence with Bureau letter dated June 20, 1942, the writer telephonically contacted Subject and requested him to appear at the Detroit Field Office for an interview by Hr, BUGAS ami the writer concern— ing the alleged plot which Subject reported to Attomey Generel BIDDIE. At 2:30 P.M. on duly 7, 1942, SMITH was interviewed by Special Agent in Charge JOHN S, BUGAS and the writer in the office of the Special Agent in Charge, The interview lested until 3:20 P.M, and Subject was asked to give all the inform ticn in his posscssion concerning the alleged plot which ho reported ¢o the Attorney Generai, Persistent attempts were made to confine Subject to this limited scope but he furnished practically no fects which were not already known to the Bureau. In short, he stated thet he was visited by Mr. NIE, Associate Editar of the Amricen Mercury magazinc, which is largely omed ’ by reputable. Jewishpersons.
