This organization began as a group of American Federation of Labor unions. With the trend away from the American Federation of Labor into the CIO on the part of the Maritime unions and the desertion of the Waritim Federation of the Pacific by the more conserv-tive AFL unions, the Mari~ time Federation changed from an entirely AFL body to aimost entirely 2 CIO body. On the date of its diBsolution in July 1941, it consisted of all CIO unions except three, one of these was independent and two _ of the others were whet were generally known as extremely radical AP of L unions. The Weritime Federation of the Pecific published a weekly newspeper called the "Voice of the Federation". This peper carried news articles regerding each of the unions affiliated in the Ueritime Federation of the Pa c, devoting in almost an entire pege to subject organization, It will be noted in other sections of tnis report that scverel items of informtion contained therein were obtained from issues of the "Voice of the Federrtion®. The exccutive positions in the Weritime Federetion of the Pecifie wre lirgely held by members of the Comaunist Party.
