they can also be turned against the communists, for, to the noncommunist
world, these inherent and established methods of communism can provide
the rallying points of common interest.
The common purpose of the free world is to remain free--to
avoid the imperialistic domination of world communism so that each
independent nation of the free world may peaceably pursue its own destiny.
This common resolve to remain free of communist domination is at the
heart of such measures as the military, political, and economic alliances
of the western nations. This same community of interest can be extended
to provide the basis of ever-widening, coordinated opposition to commu-
nism, if the United States will project its leadership forthrightly into the
realm of all noncommunist nations.
Nature of Conference
This proposal for a Free World Conference for Peace envisions
a conference which, quite frankly, presumes the leadership of the United
States and, unashamedly, reports on that stewardship to those noncommu-
nist nations which accept the invitation.
The President of the United States would be the host to the
Free World Conference for Peace. It could be litld in a location such as
Washington, D. C., or San Francisco, California. Invitations would be
