It is proposed to continue exploration and pilot
work along lines which have been developed in the
investigations of the past few years in cooperation
with other projects of interest to the Sponsor.
The
prlnary field of work involves the effects of stress
on human beings.
Major items of interest presently
Involve the following areas:
(a)
Creation of reliable research "tools"
for study of stress phenomena in animals and.
- man with the end In view of understanding these
phenomena to the extent that practical applica-
tions can be realised in interpreting and con-
trolling human behavior.
(b)
The production and study of new chemi-
cal and physical agents of significance in
connection with the stress reactions
(c)
The allied Investigation of chemical
and physical agents related to the "state of
awareness" of human beings.
The particular
Interest in this relationship is to obtain and
define a separation between general activation
or depression of
whs whole animal and the very
specific "perceptual" depression or activation
desirable from the psychologists ' point of viev.
A reasonable amount of progress is being made in
the several areas indicated above and it is expected
that continued efforts of the sort which have proved
efficacious in the past year will yield further
significant results.
