Honorable William J. Baxley KOTE: Captioned case concerns bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabamz, 9/15/83, resulting in four deaths and personal injury to 16 other persons. At his request, after appropriate contact with Civil Rights Division, we furnished certain results of our in- vestigation to Baxley. By airtel 7/9/76, Birminghan listed numerous docusents furnished to Baxley and advised that no additional inforustion had been requested by him wince 3/5/76, the date on which the last cocuncnts requested were furnished. Apparently based on results of his review of documents previously furnished, Baxley has requested to interview 23 Special Agents who participated in above investigation in Birmingham in 1963-64. Our initial response advised we would authorize submission of written queations to the Agents as a means of cooperation but maintaining integrity of our files end pending matters within Birmingham Division.
