is the Newark City Corporation Counsel. In addition to the
city business frou July, 1945, to April, i951, companiss in
which Zwillman hed an interest uid business toteling $33,000
with Essex County, New Jersey.
Zwillmen in his testimony before the Senate Crime

1951, admitted that his company, the Public Service
Tobecco Company, operates some 1,000 cigarette machines in
the Worth Jersey area, selling in excess of 650,000 pecks
per month, He slao claims to operate some 600 te 700 washing

source of his Canadien whiskey in bootlegging days es well as
his sssociates in this operation. He edmitted that Attorney
Arthur derfield Hayes was a trustee for him’in Business
activities.
During Committee testimony by Zwiliman, ho was asked
@ question es to whether or not he, in the last ten years, had
owned stock in excess of 100 shares in the Hudson and Manhattan
Railroad, Zwillman was also asked whether or not he had eny
influence in neming the controlling offictals of the Budson send
Manhatten Railroad. We fefused to answer the questions. It
Was subsequently brought out that he actually did not own any
shares, but had owned some $20,000 in bonds which he
subsequently disposed of at a profit. William Egen was
President of the company during this time.
Zwiliman, in his testimony, admitted his connection
with the companies mentioned above and advised he was
associated im the Public Service Tobsecco Company with
Michael Lasceri.
The "New York World Megran and Sun," dated
January 8, 1952, commented thet Treasury agenta were closely
following. some hoo recketeers in the New York City area with
the expectation of collecting past due income taxes. One of
the New Jorsey recket men, eocording to the newspaper, whose
