He requested that we determine if Federal action might be appropriate. Senator Gore (Democrat - Tennessee) is not to be contacted without Bureau authority per Nichols to Mr. Tolson memorandum dated 3-18-54, as Senator Gore made outrageous charges concerning the FBI; however, it is felt his current inquiry should be answered inasmuch as he has been contacted by constituents concerning car theft activities in Coffee County, Knoxville advised that since 1-1-69, there have been four vehicles stolen in Coffee County, Tennessee, and transported interstate, To further illustrate the local nature of car theft activities in Coffee County, from 1-1-69, through 6-31-70, Knoxville reported recovery of 554 vehicles. Only nine of these were recovered in Coffee County. There has been no evidence of car theft ring activities in this county in many years, ~
